The garden centre at Woodside is run by gardeners for gardeners! Emma makes sure she always has a great selection of plants (she only stocks varieties that are suitable for growing in the Borders) and interesting varieties. Many of the plants we stock come from our very own nursery near Kelso, and are grown by Stephen under hardy conditions. Because we grow so many of the plants at our nursery we are able to confidently recommend these to you, knowing they will withstand the very worst of our winter weather. Of course, we can’t grow everything ourselves, so we buy our roses from a specialist Scottish nursery, and our climbers from a simply brilliant grower in Evesham. Other plants we buy in as and when needed, but always from British growers, and always from Northern growers whenever possible.
We love “grow your own” plants and we specialise in herbs, fruit and vegetables. We nearly always have a good selection of fruit trees available, and in Autumn and Spring we stock Scottish grown raspberries, currants and blackberries. We try hard to stock stuff only when it’s in season (and not before) and offer an ordering service to source plants for our customers. (Though we can’t guarantee to find everything, we will always try.)
And we’ve got most of the other stuff you need for gardening – seeds and containers, tools and gloves, boots and string. We stock only the best brands because we think that your garden deserves the best! We also offer advise to help you purchase everything you need to start growing your own salads and vegetables.
If you’re looking for those extra bits to adorn the garden we have some tasty offerings from local and national suppliers– our pots, made in Hexham are amongst our most popular lines, and come with a full guarantee to survive our severe winters.
We also have an extensive range of wildlife products: bird food and feeders, bird boxes and insect houses.
Most importantly we offer advice and inspiration and, unlike many smaller centres, we are open all year round 10-4 from October to February, and 10-5 from March to September. We do like to take two days off for Christmas, and another one for the New Year, but apart from that we’re open every day.
