- We really do try our best to find the best products locally:
- Eggs are organic and properly free-range and travel just a few miles from Sandystones Farm
- Meat is sourced from Alan Learmonth in Jedburgh and is fully traceable back to local farms. The beef comes from Upper Nisbet Farm (just down the road) and free-range pork from Hawick. The delicious honey roast ham is cooked by Alan and his team.
- Strawberries & raspberries are supplied by Border Berries and from our nursery at Newton Don – the local season is short and sweet but well worth waiting for! Picked fresh and available to buy.
- Award winning Doddington ice cream – luxury farm made ice cream produced from the fresh whole milk from the North Doddington herd.
- We use chutneys and relishes from small local producers, and when she gets time Alexis (our Cafe Manageress) makes chutneys and jams to die for. We offer these for sale when we can, but they go so quickly Alexis can’t keep up!
- Oleifera rapeseed oil from Borderfields – concerned about global warming and the impact high air miles have on our environment, it is good to know that there is a top quality culinary oil grown right here in the Borders – and it tastes great!
- Honey is from Tweedside Bee Products – small local producer and a great local product – gardeners need bees, so let’s support the local honey man.
- Our Deli Shelves are usually well stocked with a selection of products from all these local producers, as well as supporting small Scottish businesses who use locally sourced ingredients, such as Cochrane Cottage fat free drizzles and oils, and Fife Fruit Farm apple juices.
