Art is one of my hobbies – looking at it I mean, not actually drawing or painting as I’m hopeless at that – so here at Woodside we have monthly art exhibitions by local amateur and professional artists. I’m astonished at the talents of our local artists, and hope you will be too. We are now fully booked for 2012 with the following artists exhibiting:
January – David Hay
February – Sue Martin
Sue studied at Ipswich Art College before moving to the Borders. After becoming an established artist, specialising in animal, she moved to the Charente region of France where she continued to paint wild and domestic animals whilst bringing up her children. Sue has regularly exhibited in France and Scotland over a span of 22 years, and has now moved back to the Borders with her equestrian theatre troup “Les Amis d’Onno. Her unique and spontaneous watercolour style captures the life and vitality of her sunjects.
March – Margaret Currie
Margaret spent a short time at Glasgow School of Art in the ’50′s but illness, marriage and a family cut that short. About 10 years ago Margaret finally managed to start painting again, and is really enjoying rediscovering and developing her talents.
April – Jedburgh Art Group
May – Mary Goulden
June – Stuart Scott
Stuart is a nature and landscape photographer based in the Scottish Borders. Born and brought up in Wales, Stuart spent much of his childhood around animals and birds, as well as exploring the local countryside where he learnt to enjoy and respect the natural world. Since moving to Scotland, Stuart has tried to concentrate his photography to within a few miles of his home. As well as following the local wildlife and chasing the light across the Scottish Borders hills, he has begun a long-term project on the landscape and nature of Lauderdale.
July – Janis Cornwall
“I have always loved drawing & painting and when doing higher art at school experimented with both oil paints and batik printing. I continued using oils until I had young children and found it difficult to leave paintings lying around to dry with small hands in the house. Eventually I moved onto pencils as a medium and did a lot of sketching of animals and wild flowers. About 5 years ago, my son gave me a set of acrylic paints for Christmas and I have never looked back. Having been a photographer for a number of years, I have used many of my photographs as a basis for my paintings, loving the colours of the hills & waterways and dramatic skies, mainly of the Borders, but also of Scotlandas a whole. I find the colours easy to capture with acrylic paints, which when varnished, take on a glorious depth of colour. I occasionally paint animals for a change – horses, birds and dogs being my forte but always seem to revert back to the Border landscapes. A title for any exhibition I ever have would have to be – The Borders and beyond!” http://www.souterpics.com/page3.htm
August – Jedburgh Art Group
September – Mary Goulden
October – Linda Kinsman Blake
November – A. Jarvis
December – Ann Bushell
